A Calico Kitten Sat Down in the Middle of the Gourd Patch

AI imagecalico kittengourdsautumn porch

Surrounded by lumpy green gourds, little orange pumpkins, and pale speckled squashes, a tiny calico kitten sits on a wooden porch and looks off with calm interest. Dried corn stalks lean behind her in the autumn light, a railing runs along the porch, and the yard beyond is a hazy green. Her coat is a neat patchwork of white, orange, and black.

Calico is a color pattern, not a breed, and calico kittens can grow up to have any number of personalities. Almost all of them are female, which is a charming bit of cat genetics. Like all kittens, they need lots of rest and playtime, safe places to climb, and regular checkups with a vet to keep them healthy.

Autumn porch displays can be lovely, but a few items need care around pets. Dried corn stalks can be sharp or splintery, and corn cobs, if chewed and swallowed, can cause a dangerous blockage in cats and dogs. Ornamental gourds are usually just decoration, but a kitten that nibbles on them may get an upset stomach. It is smart to supervise any outdoor time and keep decorations tucked away from curious teeth.

This kitten, however, is fully calm in her seasonal garden. She sits with her paws together, taking in the late-afternoon quiet, a very small spot of color among all the squashes.
