Maple Put On His Scarf and Stared Off Like a Winter Poet
A thoughtful golden Retriever puppy gazes off to the side, wrapped in a thick oatmeal-colored scarf that has been looped around his neck and left hanging down his chest. His silky ears fall softly past his cheeks, and a few tiny snowflakes have landed on his fur. Behind him, a wire-and-wood fence and a scatter of fallen leaves show that winter has only just arrived in the yard.
Golden Retrievers have a dense double coat that does a good job in cold weather, which is one reason so many of them adore snow. Puppies are a different story, since they have less body fat and are still learning to regulate their temperature. A scarf is cute, but make sure anything worn around a dog's neck is loose, never dangling where it could snag, and take it off if your pup starts chewing it, since swallowed yarn can be dangerous.
This breed is famous for its gentle, eager-to-please nature. Goldens usually love meeting people, carrying things in their mouths, and joining every family activity, so a young pup often looks for something to carry while he explores a new season. Early training with patience and treats pays off for years.
We'll call him Maple. He wears the scarf with calm confidence, and he looks like he's already composing a winter poem in his head.
