Skate Found a Frozen Puddle and Turned It Into a Rink
Stretched out flat on a sheet of cracked ice, the silver Weimaraner puppy looks delighted and a little baffled. His front paws splay out, his tongue peeks out of a smile, and his light eyes are bright with excitement. Behind him, a porch door is open to a warm entryway, with a pair of rubber boots and a green coat hanging nearby, as if his family just stepped inside.
Ice can be slippery for dogs, especially puppies with developing coordination. It's best to supervise and keep play to areas where your pup won't hurt himself. Ice can also hide sharp edges, and a frozen surface over water, like a pond, can be dangerous. Paws may also pick up ice melt or salt from walkways, so rinse and dry them afterward, and talk to your vet if your dog's paws look red or sore.
Weimaraners are energetic, athletic dogs who love to run, and a slippery patch can feel like a new game. Their strong bond with family also means they often want to stay close, so he may well slide over to check in with you. A calm rewarded recall helps him come back safely when you call.
We'll call him Skate. He might not be steady on his feet, but he's got the style, and he's already planning his next run.
