Hank Kept Watch by the Frosty Window Under the Wreath
Sitting very still in the corner by the door, the black and tan Dachshund puppy gazes out at the world through a window frosted with delicate ice crystals. A wreath of pine, eucalyptus, and pinecones hangs on the glass with a cream ribbon. The puppy's long silky ears fall softly around his face, and his tan eyebrows and paws look like they were painted on with a tiny brush.
Dachshunds are bright, curious dogs with a big bark and a long back. Their body shape means their spines need extra care, so avoid letting them jump off furniture and stairs, and support their back when you carry them. Puppies of this breed are lively and love to sniff and dig, and they often follow their family from room to room. Talk to your vet about safe exercise and winter care for a long-backed breed.
A window is a perfect place for a puppy to watch the world. Frosty glass and falling snow offer new sights, and it's enrichment that doesn't need any effort from you. Keep the window area free of cords or hanging items he might chew, and make sure the floor near the glass isn't too cold. A rug or soft blanket makes a good lookout spot.
We'll call him Hank. He's waiting for someone to come home, and he's keeping a careful watch.
