Muffin Met the Gingerbread House and Had a Lot of Questions
On the corner of the table, the little Yorkie puppy sits very still, ears folded forward and eyes locked on a gingerbread house. The gingerbread is decorated with icing swirls and bright gumdrops, and cinnamon sticks and crumbs are scattered nearby. A green throw cloth lies on the table, and a sofa with a gift box and a garland of lights sits warmly in the background. A cinnamon stick lies on its side beside the little house, and the glow of a window warms the whole table.
Gingerbread and candy are a risky mix for dogs. Sugary icing can upset a puppy's stomach, and some candies contain xylitol, a sweetener that's toxic for dogs. Spices like nutmeg can also be harmful in larger amounts, and cinnamon sticks can be a choking hazard. Keep the whole gingerbread display out of reach, and call your vet if your puppy gets into any of it.
Yorkshire Terrier puppies are tiny but bold, and they love to investigate new things. Their small size makes them able to squeeze under chairs and reach tables you might not expect, so keep an eye on the lower edges of tables. Offer him a dog-safe chew or a bit of plain cooked chicken instead, and he'll be happy to join the baking fun without any risk. Always supervise baking projects with a pup nearby, and clear the crumbs once the fun is over.
We'll call him Muffin. He's very interested in the architecture, and he's trying to decide which room has the best snacks.
