A Sleepy White Kitten Took Over the Mantel Beneath the Stockings
Four knitted stockings hang from a rustic mantel, cream, red, green and a soft ivory cable knit, and right beneath them sleeps a fluffy white kitten. She is curled into a tight crescent with her nose tucked in and her pink ears relaxed. Pinecones and greenery trim the shelf, a stack of green towels rests nearby, and a framed family photo and a mug sit in the soft morning light.
Cats pick high, warm, quiet places to nap, and a mantel often offers all three. Kittens can sleep for most of the day because they are growing quickly, and they usually wake for play in short, lively bursts. It is a good idea to give a young cat a safe, quiet resting spot of her own where she won't be disturbed.
A few mantel cautions apply. A fireplace should have a screen if a fire is lit, candles should be kept well out of reach, and hanging stockings are best kept away from where a kitten might climb and tug. Watch for small ornaments and greenery she could chew. If you ever have questions about holiday decorations and cats, your vet can help.
For now she dreams, and the stockings stay empty and still above her. She has all she wants for Christmas already, a warm spot and a quiet morning.
