A Husky Puppy Found the Warm Rolls and Followed His Nose Straight to Them

With his nose almost touching a basket of golden dinner rolls, a black-and-white Husky puppy leans in for a good, deep sniff. His ears are still soft and folded, his face has the sweet mask of a young Husky, and his blue-grey eyes are focused on the bread. A lamp glows to the side, a linen napkin lies nearby, and a window shows the early evening outside.

Siberian Huskies are energetic, friendly and independent dogs, bred to pull sleds over long distances. They are known for their wolflike looks, thick coats and endless stamina. They are smart but can be stubborn, and they often need lots of exercise, training and a very secure yard, because many Huskies are skilled escape artists.

Bread is tempting for dogs, but it is not always safe. Plain bread in tiny amounts is usually not harmful, but dinner rolls often have butter, garlic, onions or seasonings, and raw yeast dough can be dangerous if swallowed. Keep rolls out of reach, and don't let guests offer table food. If your puppy eats dough or something you are unsure about, contact your vet.

For now the rolls stay safe in their basket, and the puppy gets to enjoy the best part, the smell. It is a wonderful smell, and his nose knows it. Maybe, when the dinner is over, a dog-safe biscuit will make up for the wait.
