A Weimaraner Models His Pumpkin Costume on the Front Step
The orange hood has a green stem and curly vine on top, and the silver gray Weimaraner underneath it has an expression somewhere between dignity and mild confusion. He sits on a coir doormat on the front step, with his light amber eyes turned slightly away. Pots of orange mums, a few small pumpkins and a front door with a green hose coiled beside it fill out the autumn doorstep behind him.
Weimaraners are athletic, intelligent dogs, originally bred for hunting. They are often nicknamed gray ghosts for their sleek, silvery coat. They are known for being energetic and devoted, and they typically need a lot of daily exercise and companionship. Without plenty to do, they may get bored or anxious, so training games and long walks fit them well.
If you dress your dog for the occasion, a hood or costume should leave the ears and eyes free and should never be so snug that it makes breathing hard. Practice a few days ahead, give treats and keep sessions short. Many dogs find a simple bandana or festive collar more comfortable than a full costume.
We will call him Gourd, and he is carrying the look with real grace. The pumpkin outfit is bright and silly, but he is a calm and steady model. There is probably nothing more autumn than a gray ghost dressed as a pumpkin on a doorstep.
