A Bulldog Claims the Throne in a Wagon Full of Pumpkins
The wagon is filled to the rim with orange and white pumpkins, and sitting right in the middle of them is a fawn and white Bulldog, as comfortable as a king on a throne. His wrinkled face has a look of calm certainty, and his ears fold back in the golden light. Behind him a house with mums by the step and fallen leaves around the path makes the whole picture feel like a postcard from October.
Bulldogs are sturdy, affectionate and often quite relaxed, which makes them popular family pets. They have short faces, so they can have trouble in hot weather and during intense exercise. A shady spot, fresh water and gentle walks are the best way to keep them comfortable, and a vet can give guidance on healthy weight, skin folds and breathing.
Pumpkin wagons are a staple of fall photos, but it helps to keep pets safe around them. Make sure the wagon is steady and on flat ground so it cannot roll, lift a dog in and out instead of letting him jump, and check that the pumpkins are not moldy or rotting. Small ornamental gourds can be bitter or upsetting if chewed, so it is best to discourage nibbling.
We will call him Duke. He did not have to climb into the wagon, since it seems everyone just made room for him. The pumpkins are lucky to have such good company, and the view from the top of the pile is lovely.
