A Fluffy Puppy Puts His Nose Into a Table of Pumpkin Seeds

AI imagepuppypumpkin seedspumpkin carving

Floppy ears fall forward and a small pink nose hovers just above a sea of green pumpkin seeds. The fluffy black, white and tan puppy has his front paws planted on the table and his dark eyes turned down toward the mess. A hollowed-out pumpkin and chunks of orange flesh sit to the left, and a kitchen with a dish towel and paper towels is blurred in the background.

Puppies explore with their noses and mouths, so a table full of new smells is an irresistible puzzle. A good sniff is natural, and curiosity is a sign of a healthy, interested puppy. Pumpkin flesh, cooked and plain, can be an occasional treat for many dogs, but raw seeds, stringy pulp and large amounts of anything new can upset a stomach, so ask your vet what is right for your puppy.

Pumpkin carving time works best when a puppy has his own activity nearby, like a chew toy or a snuffle mat, so he feels included. Keep knives and carving tools well out of reach, and clear seeds and scraps quickly. A puppy on a table is also a fall risk, so it is safer to have him on the floor, where the mess is easy to supervise.

We will call him Pip. He is mostly sniffing, with great focus, and he has not yet decided what to do about all this. The pumpkin seeds are scattered, the kitchen is busy and the smallest helper is already on the job.
