Snow Began to Fall on Christmas Eve, and One Corgi Noticed First
On the cushioned window seat, a red and white Corgi named Waffles rests with his chin up and his big ears alert, gazing out the window. Outside, snowflakes fall in the dim evening light over a street and a neighbor's roof. Behind him, a little Christmas tree glows in the corner of the room and a plaid blanket rests on a chair. The room is quiet, and it feels like a holiday evening is settling in.
Corgis are smart, herding dogs, always interested in what goes on outside, so a window is a perfect post. Many love snow, but their short legs and long bodies mean they can tire quickly in deep drifts. A good rule is to keep winter outings short and to dry them well afterward. Corgis also do best with a healthy weight, since extra pounds can strain their backs, so go easy on holiday treats and talk to your vet about portions. A window seat or a bed near the glass lets a dog watch the world without getting cold, and a soft cushion keeps older joints comfortable.
Waffles looks content, as if he understands something special is coming. The snow falls softly, and the room is warm behind him. Christmas Eve is a good time to just sit and watch, and he has the best seat for it, with the whole quiet evening laid out in front of him.
