The Snowman Was Finished, and the Bernese Moved In Next to Him
Snow still falls lightly over the yard as a tricolor Bernese Mountain Dog sits beside a freshly built snowman. Bear's black coat is flecked with snowflakes, his white chest stands out and his rust eyebrows give him an alert look. The snowman wears a red plaid scarf and has a carrot nose and a smile of small stones. A wooden fence, a sled and a pile of firewood sit in the background.
Bernese Mountain Dogs come from the Swiss Alps, and their thick, double coats make them well suited to cold weather. Many love snow, but they can overheat easily in warm rooms and with exercise, so give him a cool place to rest. After a snowy playtime, check his paws for ice balls, wipe off road salt and make sure he has fresh water, since snow is not a substitute. Bernese are friendly and affectionate dogs, and they love being near their families, so building a snowman together makes a fine outing. Large dogs also need gentle exercise for their joints, so avoid hard jumping on icy ground.
Bear looks like he is guarding his frosty friend. He sits quietly, looking out, as if the snowman may need a protector. The scarf is tied just right, and the whole scene feels peaceful, as if the snow itself were holding its breath for a moment.
