The Door Was Decorated, but the Best Part Was Waiting on the Mat
A shaggy apricot Goldendoodle named Clementine sits on the doormat just inside the front door, gazing off to the side. A green door with a wreath of pine, red berries and a cream bow stands behind her, and a window next to it lets in soft evening light. Coats hang on a hook, boots wait by the wall and a canvas bag leans in the corner. Her wavy coat and gentle eyes make her look like she is thinking something over.
Goldendoodles are a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, and they are usually friendly, intelligent and eager to please. Many are very social, so a doorway is a natural place for them to greet guests. Their curly coats need regular brushing to prevent mats, especially in winter when coats get damp. Holiday wreaths often include holly, pine and berries, which can upset a dog's stomach, so keep the lowest parts of a wreath out of reach and sweep up any needles. A mat by the door is also a good place to practice a sit, since it helps her learn to wait politely while guests arrive.
Clementine waits patiently with a look that says guests are on their way. When the door opens, she will surely give them a welcome that includes every wag in her body. A friendly face at the door is the best Christmas decoration.
