The Beagle Put On the Elf Hat and Gave Us the Look of a Lifetime
Big brown eyes, long velvet ears and a jaunty green elf hat with a white pom-pom make a Beagle named Cooper impossible to ignore. A matching green collar with a gold jingle bell sits at his chest, and his black nose tilts up with hopeful curiosity. He sits on a nubby gray couch with a glowing tree behind him and a lamp casting warm light over a side table where a few small things lie scattered.
Beagles were bred to follow scent trails, so the nose is almost always working, and holiday kitchens can be very exciting for them. They are friendly, merry dogs that love company, but they are also known for being food driven and clever at finding snacks. Keep trash cans closed, store treats high up and don't leave plates unattended during gatherings. A beagle in a costume should be able to see, hear and move freely, and it is good to take the hat off if he scratches at it. Jingle bells can be chewed off and swallowed, so check that they are secure. Beagles also need exercise to stay happy, so a walk on a holiday morning is a great idea.
Cooper has the expression of a dog who knows something delicious is nearby. His elf outfit is all smiles, but his eyes are on the door to the kitchen. The reward for such a good look, of course, is a pat and a very small treat.
