On Christmas Eve, a Shiba Inu Sat by the Window and Watched the First Flakes
Looking out through a rain-spotted window, a cream-colored Shiba Inu named Mochi sits quietly with her ears pricked and her gaze fixed on the weather. Snowflakes drift across the glass, and in the yard beyond, bare shrubs and a neighbor's house fade into the gray afternoon. Behind her, a small Christmas tree glows in a corner, and a plaid blanket is draped over a chair.
Shiba Inus are known for being clean, curious and independent, and many sit quietly at windows to watch the world. Their thick double coat keeps them warm in snow, but a wet Shiba still needs drying off after time outdoors. They can be cautious about strangers and sensitive to loud noises, so a quiet window seat can be a good hiding place during a busy holiday. Shibas also have a strong prey drive and a talent for escaping, so a secure fence and a leash are important when they head out into the snow. On a cold evening, a bed near the window with a blanket makes a lovely spot to relax.
Mochi seems to be considering the first flakes of the season, and the thoughts behind those dark eyes are anyone's guess. The tree glows quietly behind her, and the room is calm. It is a peaceful scene to end the day, with the whole house hushed and the snow doing all the talking.
