The Cocoa Was Hot and the Marshmallows Were Soft. The Doodle Was Sitting Close.
Curly, caramel-colored and very serious, a Goldendoodle named Latte sits at the edge of the coffee table with her eyes on a mug of cocoa. The marshmallows on top are melting just slightly, a sprig of pine rests beside the mug and a chunky knit blanket is draped on the table's edge. Behind her, a small lit tree and a garland on the mantel add warmth to a quiet living room with a gray couch.
Hot cocoa is a holiday favorite for people, but it is not a good drink for dogs. Chocolate is toxic to dogs, and cocoa can also have a lot of sugar and sometimes artificial sweeteners that are dangerous, so keep mugs out of reach and clean up spills. Goldendoodles are friendly, smart and social dogs, and their curly coats need regular brushing to prevent mats. They are also often quite food motivated, which makes training easy but means they may investigate anything that smells sweet. Give her a dog-safe treat or a long-lasting chew when you sit down with your own drink, so she has something to enjoy beside you.
Latte looks calm and sweet, as though she is merely admiring the mug. The marshmallows are safe, at least for now. A cozy evening is better when everyone, even the dog, has something to look forward to.
