The Lab Puppy Disappeared Into the Leaves and Came Up Smiling
The leaves are piled high, and a chocolate brown Labrador puppy has sunk right into them, chin lifted, mouth open in a happy panting smile. Orange and gold maple leaves crowd around the paws, big pumpkins glow to the right, and a warm porch light shines from the corner of the house. The puppy's eyes are warm brown and full of mischief, and a few leaves are caught in the fur. It is the exact moment between a pounce and the next one.
Labrador Retrievers are popular family dogs because they are usually friendly, eager, and playful. Puppies have lots of energy and love to carry things in their mouths, so chew toys and a retrieval game are great outlets. Labs also love to eat, so watch portions and keep a healthy weight, and ask your vet about the right food for a growing puppy. In leaf piles, check for sharp sticks, damp patches, or anything dirty, and discourage your puppy from eating leaves or acorns, which can upset a stomach. A short play session followed by a rest suits a young pup.
We could call him Cocoa. He seems to think the whole yard has been arranged for him, from the leaves to the pumpkins to the porch light. Maybe that is true. Autumn does have a way of making every puppy feel like the guest of honor.
