The Frenchie Puppy Was Ready for Takeoff, at Least in Spirit
Big round eyes, folded bat ears, and two small black wings: this brindle French Bulldog puppy is ready to take flight, or at least to sit very still on the porch. The puppy's wrinkled face is dark and soft, and its coat is striped with shades of brown and black. Around it, the porch is dressed for fall with corn stalks, a paper bat garland, orange pumpkins, a pot of mums, and tiny gourds. Leaves have blown into the corners of the steps.
French Bulldogs are small, friendly, and playful, with a flat face that makes them more sensitive to heat and exercise. They can overheat quickly, so keep outings short, offer water, and stay in the shade. Puppies should not be pushed too hard in play, and a harness is usually more comfortable than a collar for walks. If your puppy wears wings or a costume, keep the straps loose, make sure the dog can breathe easily, and take the outfit off if the puppy pants or seems uneasy. A vet can advise on care for a flat-faced breed.
Let's call him Batty. He looks proud and a little puzzled, as if he is waiting for the wings to lift him off the porch. A very small, very soft vampire would be no trouble at all, and this one would only bite a treat.
