The Candy Bowl Had One Very Serious Guard by the Front Door
The front door is propped wide open, a green jacket and a plaid shirt hang on the hooks behind it, and a small grey puffball has parked herself right beside the candy bowl. Her round eyes are fixed on the doorway as if she is the official greeter for the evening. The bowl is heaped with shiny wrapped treats in orange and black, and she sits close enough to guard them without quite touching.
Persian kittens come with a lot of coat for such a small body, and that long fur needs regular, gentle brushing to stay free of tangles. Short, calm sessions teach a kitten early on that grooming is pleasant. Candy bowls are also worth a thought in any pet household: chocolate is toxic to cats and dogs, and sugar-free sweeteners and loose wrappers can cause serious trouble. Keep the bowl on a high shelf or behind a closed door once the doorbell rush is over, and call your vet if a pet swallows something it should not have.
Still, this little guard seems more interested in the doorway than the sweets. Every footstep on the porch is a new reason to perk up her ears, and the cool evening air drifting in smells like leaves and woodsmoke. She has plenty of time to figure out what Halloween is all about, and for now her job is simply to sit, watch, and look adorable at the threshold.
