The Maze Looked Easy. The Kitten at the Entrance Wasn't So Sure.
Stacks of hay bales rise like walls on both sides, and a small silver tabby kitten sits at the foot of the maze with her head turned to the left. Her pale stripes and light green eyes match the straw. A bundle of cornstalks leans nearby, a tiny pumpkin rests on a bale, and in the distance is a house with a porch decorated for fall.
Hay and straw are classic autumn props, and kittens love to hide, pounce, and climb on them. Straw is generally safer than dusty hay, which can irritate the nose and eyes of a small animal. Watch out for sharp stalks near the face, and brush any bits out of her fur afterward. Cats who explore outdoors should be supervised and up to date on vaccines and flea prevention, which your vet can help you plan. Shorthaired silver tabbies come in many breeds and mixes, and their personalities can range from bold explorers to careful observers.
This one looks like a careful observer. She has reached the entrance, but she has not committed to going in. Each turn of the maze is probably full of rustling mysteries, and she has plenty of time to decide. For now, the best plan seems to be to sit and think about it, and maybe give one hay bale a thorough sniff for good measure.
