The Pumpkin Was Carved, and the Kitten Found All the Leftovers

The carving is done, but the cleanup is just beginning. A seal point kitten with a gray-cream coat and a dark face tiptoes across a table covered in pumpkin seeds and orange strands, her nose almost touching the pile. A hollowed-out pumpkin with its lid off sits behind her, and a plaid cloth and kitchen counter fill the background. Some seeds still glisten, and she sniffs each one with great care.

Pumpkin carving time is a good moment to think about safety. Plain pumpkin flesh and seeds are generally not toxic to cats, but a pile of raw guts can still cause stomach upset in a small kitten, and salted or seasoned roasted seeds are a poor choice. Knives, carving tools, and scooping spoons should be kept out of her reach, and a candle left inside a carved pumpkin is a hazard for pets. Ragdoll kittens like this one are usually curious and affectionate, and they love to follow people around the kitchen. If she eats a lot of anything new, call your vet for advice.

She does not seem to know what the stuff is yet, but she is certainly investigating. A world of strange smells has landed on the table, and she is making her way through all of them. Nobody is carving anymore, so the kitten has the whole sticky stage to herself.
