Santa's Newest Reindeer Was a Fluffy Tricolor Puppy in the Snow
Wearing a headband with two soft brown antlers wrapped in greenery, a tricolor puppy sits on the snow-dusted boards of a porch. Her coat is black with rust-colored cheeks and a white blaze down her nose and chest, and her dark eyes look gently to one side. A railing with snow along the top and a blue house wall frame the scene, and a bare yard stretches out behind her.
Bernese Mountain Dogs were bred as farm dogs in the Swiss Alps, and they are known for being sweet, calm, and devoted to their families. Their thick coats make them happy in cold weather, but they can overheat easily in warm rooms. They grow into big, heavy dogs, so puppies need controlled exercise to protect their growing joints, and your vet can advise how much is right. A headband should sit comfortably, never too tight, and puppies who dislike it should have it removed. The breed often loves snow and gentle company.
This pup carries her antlers with a patient sort of dignity. She does not seem to mind the cold at all, and the snow on the boards looks like it was made for her paws. She is a very fluffy reindeer in training, and it is easy to imagine her growing into a gentle giant. The snow is not the only soft thing on that porch, because her fur looks just as fluffy as the flakes.
