A Candy Cane, a Fluffy Cream Kitten, and a Very Innocent Look
With a candy cane clamped firmly in her mouth, this cream Persian kitten looks like she is stealing the show. Her round face, flat little nose, and wide eyes give her an expression of pure innocence, while the striped treat sticks out like a tiny pirate's cutlass. Behind her, the room is a happy holiday mess: opened boxes, a rumpled blanket, wrapping scraps, and a stray toy on the rug.
Candy canes are a good moment for a gentle reminder about holiday treats. Sugar is not something cats need, and peppermint candy can be a problem. Some candy and gum contain sweeteners such as xylitol, which is dangerous for pets, and hard candy can break into sharp pieces or become a choking risk. If a kitten gets hold of one, take it away gently and call your vet if she swallowed any of it. Persians, with their long coats and flat faces, also need regular grooming, and sticky sweets in a coat are a headache. A feather wand or a crinkle toy makes a much safer prize, and kittens are usually just as happy chasing a toy as they are with the real thing.
The candy cane also has that red-and-white stripe that photographs so well, which is probably why the kitten looks so proud.
Whether it stays in her mouth or gets swapped for a toy, this little thief has won over the room.
