A Fluffy White Persian Ruled the Yard as a Tiny Lion
A fluffy white Persian has been dressed as a lion, with a tawny mane framing her round face and tucked behind her ears. Her expression is calm and dignified, her eyes are half closed in an air of royal patience, and her long white coat spills out below the mane. Behind her, a house with a porch, a pumpkin, and drifts of fallen leaves provide a picture-perfect autumn setting.
Costumes are a Halloween favorite, but they only work well for cats who tolerate them. A good costume should be lightweight, loose, and easy to remove, with no small parts, bells, or dangling pieces. It should never cover her eyes, nose, or mouth, or limit her ability to walk or groom herself. Persians are known for being calm and patient, and many will sit still for a short photo, but watch for signs of stress like flattened ears, a lashing tail, or freezing in place. If you see them, take it off right away. Her long fur can also mat under a costume, so brushing afterward is a good idea. Ask your vet for tips on grooming a long coat.
A lion mane is also a fun match for a cat with such a fluffy frame.
Today she rules the yard, or at least this corner of it. A few leaves drift across the path, and she watches them go with the patience of a ruler who has seen it all before.
