A Cat Wrapped in an Orange Blanket Guarded the Pumpkin Pie
Wrapped like a burrito in a cozy orange blanket, a fluffy orange longhair cat sits on a kitchen counter with only her face poking out. Her green eyes are wide, her ears are tucked under the folds, and a golden-brown pumpkin pie sits right beside her on a woven mat. A small pumpkin, a knitted cloth, and a window flooded with light fill the kitchen behind.
Cats like snug, blanket-wrapped spots because they hold in warmth and feel secure. A soft blanket on a chilly autumn day is a good place for a cat to rest. The pie is another matter: pumpkin pie contains sugar, spices such as nutmeg, and often dairy and eggs, none of which are ideal for cats. Nutmeg in particular can be harmful in larger amounts. Keep pies well out of reach and cooled on a high shelf, and keep cats off the counters when food is out. If she does sneak a taste, call your vet if you are worried. Long-haired cats like this one also shed in the fall, so regular brushing keeps the blanket clean.
A kitchen counter in the fall smells of cinnamon and baking, and cats seem to love it.
For now she is happy to stay warm, wrapped up, and close to the smell of the pie. The blanket slips a little, and she tucks herself even deeper into the warm orange folds.
