A Shih Tzu Puppy Gets a Boost to Help Top the Christmas Tree
A woman with glasses and a warm smile lifts a black and white Shih Tzu puppy high in both hands, bringing him almost eye level with the golden star at the top of the tree. The puppy dangles happily, his front paws tucked and his fluffy white chest on display, looking toward the lights with total trust. Orange slices, pinecones, and red baubles shine on the branches beside them.
The room behind them is a cozy jumble: a couch with plaid pillows, a coffee table with a mug and glasses, framed family photos on the wall, and a lamp glowing softly. We'll call the puppy Mittens, though he is mostly just an impressive floof. He seems to understand that this is a very important job.
Shih Tzus are small, affectionate companions bred to live with people, and they tend to be friendly and gentle. When picking up a small puppy, always support the chest and the back legs so he feels secure, and keep him close to your body. Brief lifts are fine for photos, but puppies feel safest when they have a lap or a floor to come back to. Their long, silky coat needs regular brushing, and the hair around the eyes may need gentle trimming so it doesn't irritate them. Keep your puppy away from the tree itself, since lights, glass, and the water in the stand can all cause problems. Your vet can suggest a good grooming routine.
The star will soon be perfectly placed, and Mittens will have the best view in the house.
