Someone Walked Into the Kitchen and Found Dumpling Sitting in the Sink
It is hard to say who is more surprised, the dog or whoever just walked into the kitchen. A cream French Bulldog sits squarely inside a stainless steel sink, wedged among plates smeared with sauce, a bowl of leftover spaghetti, forks, spoons, and a couple of glass jars. Its big bat ears point straight up while its wrinkled face turns away toward the window, eyes carefully avoiding contact. Pasta scraps are scattered along the edge of the counter, a roll of paper towels sits nearby, and the warm evening light gives the whole kitchen a cozy glow.
French Bulldogs are affectionate, adaptable, and full of personality, which has made them one of the most popular breeds in America. Their compact size suits apartment life, though they still enjoy short walks and play. Because they are a flat-faced breed, they can overheat easily and may have trouble breathing during hard exercise, so cool, moderate activity is best. Dirty dishes can also hide foods that are not safe for dogs. Pasta sauces often contain onion and garlic, both of which are toxic to dogs. Rinsing dishes right away and keeping chairs pushed in can prevent climbing adventures.
We will call her Dumpling, because she looks exactly like one perched in that sink. Dumpling may have been after the spaghetti, but now she would very much like a lift down and no further questions.
