The Couch Is Still Standing. Most of Its Insides Are Not.
The couch is still standing, but most of its insides are now on the floor. A black Cocker Spaniel sits in the middle of the living room surrounded by drifts of white stuffing and shredded upholstery fabric, with more fluff spilling from the torn sofa cushions behind it. Its long, wavy ears hang down like curtains, and its brown eyes look up from under a curly forehead with a soft, sheepish expression that seems to apologize and plead at the same time. A coffee table holds a remote, a cup, a pair of glasses, and a blue knit blanket, while a houseplant sits by the wall.
Cocker Spaniels are cheerful, gentle, and affectionate dogs that typically love being with their families. They are sporting dogs at heart, so they need regular exercise and play to stay content. When dogs are left alone for long periods without enough stimulation, they may turn to chewing and tearing as a way to burn energy or cope with stress. Long walks, puzzle feeders, chew toys, and gradually practicing short absences can help. Their long ears also need routine checking and cleaning, since floppy ears can trap moisture and debris.
Look at those eyes for one second, and it becomes very clear who is in charge of this household. The couch may be a total loss, but this sweet spaniel's spot in the family is perfectly safe.
