Snow Day Has a New Game, and It Involves Somebody's Glove
The snow day has a new game, and it involves somebody's glove. A curly apricot Poodle stands in a snowy front yard with a gray knitted glove clamped in its mouth, the fingers flopping off to one side. Its fluffy coat is dotted with a few flakes, its long ears hang in soft ringlets, and its dark eyes peek out from under a mop of curls with a cheerful, slightly guilty look. Behind it, a pair of boots waits on the front step beside a dark green door, and bare shrubs poke up through the snow along the house.
Poodles are among the most intelligent dog breeds and are known for being eager learners, which makes them great at tricks, games, and training. Their tightly curled coats shed very little but need regular brushing and professional grooming to prevent mats. In winter, it is wise to check paws after walks, because ice, salt, and de-icing chemicals can irritate pads. Wiping feet with a warm cloth after coming inside helps. Short-coated or small dogs may also appreciate a sweater in very cold weather, and every dog should have a warm place to come in from the snow.
Retrieving is often part of a Poodle's heritage, so in a way, this one is simply doing its job. It found the glove, it retrieved the glove, and now it is waiting to be praised. Somebody may have to negotiate.
