Not a Single Slice Remains. Pepper Says the Box Was Already Empty.
Not a single slice remains, and the delivery box has a brand-new resident. A tricolor Beagle stands right inside an open, empty pizza box on the floor, its white paws planted on the grease-spotted cardboard. Its soft brown ears hang down, its black-and-tan back gleams, and its warm brown eyes look up with an innocent, hopeful expression, as if wondering whether there might be a second pizza on the way. Behind it, the hallway is bright with sunlight, and a pair of striped slippers, a wicker basket of clothes, a potted plant, and a dark sock lie nearby.
Beagles were bred to track scents for hours, so they have incredibly keen noses and a powerful food drive. That combination makes them famous for counter surfing, raiding trash cans, and finding every crumb in the house. They are also friendly, curious, and great with families, but they do best with plenty of exercise and secure food storage. Pizza is not a healthy treat for dogs, since the cheese is fatty and many toppings and sauces contain garlic or onion, which are harmful to dogs. Keeping leftovers sealed and up high is the best defense against a determined beagle.
Let's name her Pepper, a perfect fit for a pizza-loving pup. Pepper has eaten nothing, she would like you to believe. The box was already empty when she arrived. She simply likes the smell.
