Nobody Planned a Party in the Bathroom This Morning. The Calico Did.
The bathroom has been fully decorated, and the artist is still on site. A long-haired calico cat sits on the vanity with toilet paper looped over its shoulders like a party sash, more streamers trailing over the edge of the counter, across the toilet, and onto the gray bath mat below. Its patchwork coat of orange, black, and white looks a little damp and tousled, and its mouth is open in what can only be described as a small, guilty smile. Toothbrushes, a soap pump, and a half-used roll sit beside the sink, while daylight pours through the window above.
Calico is a color pattern rather than a breed, and it shows up in many types of cats. Because of the genetics involved, nearly all calicos are female. Many people affectionately say calicos have big personalities, though temperament really depends on the individual cat. When it comes to toilet paper, the attraction is all about play: it spins, it shreds, and it moves when touched. A roll holder with a cover, a closed bathroom door, or a few engaging toys left out during the day can help prevent a repeat performance.
Honestly, the result looks a bit like a homemade celebration. Nobody asked for a toilet paper parade this morning, but this proud calico seems to think it was overdue.
