The Reading Nook Was Neatly Organized. The Devon Rex Changed the System.

The reading nook has collapsed into an avalanche of paperbacks. A small grey Devon Rex sits right on top of the pile, surrounded by dozens of books that have tumbled out from under a wooden desk and slid across a woven rug. Some lie open, some stand on their edges, and a few have skidded all the way to the curtains. The cat's oversized ears stand at full alert and its round eyes stare straight up, frozen in place like a statue that hopes nobody will notice it moved. On the desk above, a mug of pens, a pair of glasses, and a remote wait undisturbed.

Devon Rex cats are known for their wavy coats, elfin faces, and very social, playful natures. They are often called people-oriented cats that like to be involved, follow their owners around, and climb to high spots. Because they are so curious and agile, it is a good idea to anchor bookcases and tall furniture to the wall. Unsecured shelves can tip when a cat climbs or jumps onto them, which can be dangerous for pets and children alike. Wall anchors are inexpensive and give real peace of mind.

On the bright side, this little cat has given the whole library a fresh reorganization. The new system appears to be sorted by whatever landed closest, and the head librarian is not taking questions at this time.
