One House Slipper Went Missing. The Grey Sphynx Knows Exactly Where It Is.
Caught red-pawed, with the evidence still in its mouth. A grey Sphynx cat sits in the living room clutching a slipper between its teeth, the sole worn and the fabric shredded into fuzzy, frayed edges. Its tall ears are swept back and its yellow-green eyes slide sideways in a look that is pure mischief mixed with a touch of embarrassment. The deep wrinkles on its forehead only add to the expression. Behind it, a laundry basket overflows with clothes, a blue cushion rests on the couch, and a small woven mat lies on the floor.
Cats carrying objects in their mouths is a natural behavior connected to hunting. Some cats bring toys or household items to a favorite spot or to their people, much as they would bring prey. Items that smell strongly of their owners, like slippers and socks, are especially popular because the scent is comforting and familiar. Sphynx cats in particular are often described as energetic, affectionate, and attention-loving, so a fun game of fetch with a soft toy may satisfy that urge. If a cat is actually chewing and swallowing fabric, keep those items out of reach and talk to your vet.
There is something oddly sweet about being chosen this way. Out of everything in the house, this cat picked your slipper. It is ruined, sure, but it was clearly loved right to the end.
