Gift Wrapping Was Halfway Done When the Maine Coon Showed Up

Gift wrapping has been put on hold indefinitely. A large brown tabby Maine Coon sits right in the middle of an unrolled sheet of brown kraft paper, the paper bunched and crinkled around its fluffy body like a nest. The cardboard tube lies to one side, and the rest of the roll has spread across the floor. The cat's tufted ears are angled back and its eyes glance away with a sheepish, slightly sideways look. The room glows with lamplight in the evening, with a basket of yarn, a potted plant, a mug, scissors, and a few half-finished packages scattered nearby.

Maine Coons are one of the largest domestic cat breeds and are often called gentle giants. They are typically friendly, sociable, and playful well into adulthood, and many enjoy being in the middle of household activities, which certainly includes wrapping presents. Paper is usually harmless as a play surface, but ribbons, tape, and string from gift wrapping are not safe to swallow. It is a good idea to keep those supplies picked up and wrap gifts in a room where your cat cannot join the fun unsupervised.

In the cat's view, the paper was clearly meant for him. It crinkles, it rustles, and it makes an excellent bed. Somebody may need to buy another roll, because this one has been officially claimed.
