Breakfast Was Served on the Kitchen Table and One Guest Arrived Early
Breakfast is served, and one guest arrived early. A cinnamon Abyssinian sits upright right on the kitchen table, surrounded by a full morning spread: a plate of scrambled eggs, a slice of toast with jam, a bowl of strawberries and blueberries, a dish of avocado slices, and a stick of butter on a small plate with a knife. A few crumbs and berries have already rolled loose. The cat stares straight ahead with wide green eyes and a slightly guilty face, ears tall and alert. Behind it, a dish rack, folded towels, and a windowsill plant fill the sunny kitchen.
Abyssinians are lively, people-focused cats that love to be wherever the action is, and in many homes the action is at the table. Cats jump on tables mainly because they like height and because interesting smells are there. To discourage this, try offering an attractive alternative such as a window perch or cat tree nearby, and keep food covered or put away. A few foods on this table deserve extra caution: avocado is not recommended for pets, and many jams are packed with sugar. Plain cooked egg is generally fine in small amounts, but it is best to talk to your vet before sharing people food.
This cat may not have touched a thing yet, but the look on its face suggests it was seconds away from sampling the eggs. Someone's coffee is about to go cold while they shoo away the breakfast guest.
