A Chocolate Havanese Sits Calmly in the Middle of a Feather Storm
Feathers drift through the air like snow, and a chocolate-brown Havanese sits calmly in the center of a shredded pillow. His wavy coat is dotted with bits of down, his ears are slightly tilted, and his eyes are soft and a bit worried. White feathers stick to the fabric around him and cover the floor in drifts, while a few more float down from above.
Behind him, a wooden chair holds a plaid blanket, a laundry basket and a plant sit by the wall, and sunlight streams in through sheer curtains. Toys are scattered in the corner. We'll call him Cocoa Puff. His expression is calm, as though a feather storm in the living room is simply a normal Tuesday.
Pillow destruction is a classic. Dogs shred soft items because they love the texture, they hear the satisfying rip, and the feathers fly like prey. Feathers are mostly harmless in small amounts, but swallowing stuffing, fabric, or a lot of down can upset the stomach or cause a blockage, so remove the pieces and call your vet if he ate a lot. Havanese are small, affectionate, and very people-oriented, and they may chew when lonely or bored. Give him interesting toys, rotate them regularly, and spend time playing every day. Their silky coat also collects feathers and debris, so a brushing afterward helps. Keep pillows out of reach when you leave him alone.
Cocoa Puff sits on his feathery throne, soft and still, the calmest dog in the middle of a very fluffy storm.
