The Dishes Were Supposed to Soak. The Cat Had Other Ideas.
A sink full of plates, forks and sponges might not look like a comfortable seat, but one sleek black cat has claimed it anyway. She sits upright on a stack of food-smeared plates, green eyes steady and just a hint of a smile on her face. Onions and garlic bulbs line the counter behind her, and a gray dishcloth hangs nearby. The whole scene looks like the aftermath of a long dinner, with a very serious supervisor.
Cats love sinks, and there are good reasons. Smooth, cool surfaces feel nice on warm days, and the sides of a basin make a snug, enclosed spot that feels secure. Running water is another draw, since many cats like to drink from a moving stream. A sink can also be a hazard, though, because dishes may carry grease or cleaning residue, and some foods, like onions and garlic, are not good for cats. Rinsing plates promptly or keeping the basin empty is a simple fix, and you can give her a dedicated cozy spot nearby.
Black cats are no different from any other color in personality, and plenty of them are playful and affectionate. They just happen to look wonderfully dramatic against a pile of china.
This one has settled in as if the dishes were a throne. The washing up can certainly wait until the queen decides to step down.
