A Dachshund Beat Everyone to the Evening Bubble Bath
A chocolate Dachshund sits in the middle of a bathtub brimming with foamy white bubbles, resting his chin on the rim as though he had booked the whole spa. His long ears are damp and a few bubbles cling to his back. A laundry basket, a stool and a window with warm light surround the cozy bathroom. It does not look as though he plans to leave soon.
Dachshunds are bold, curious dogs with long backs and short legs, originally bred to hunt badgers. They tend to be lively, independent and stubborn, and many love burrowing in blankets or any warm cozy place. Their long backs need protection, so many vets suggest avoiding too much jumping on and off furniture and using ramps or steps, and asking your vet about healthy weight. A bath is fine for a dog now and then, but use a dog-safe shampoo, because human soap can irritate the skin.
Rinsing well and drying off with a towel keeps the coat comfortable, and a non-slip mat in the tub helps small paws feel secure. Many dogs enjoy a warm bath if it is introduced slowly with treats.
He looks entirely relaxed and ready for a long soak. The bubbles seem to suit him, though somebody else was meant to be in the tub tonight. Dachshunds are known for their sense of humor, and he seems to have a very good one.
