A Small White Maltese Was Found Waiting Inside the Dishwasher
The dishwasher door lies open, and sitting on its lower rack, among the metal tines, is a small, fluffy white Maltese with dark button eyes. She looks sideways with a worried little expression, and her soft fur glows in the kitchen light. Towels rest on the counter above, and a curtain hangs at the edge of the window. It appears she has been waiting to be washed.
Maltese dogs are small, gentle companions, with long silky white coats that need regular brushing to prevent tangles. They are lively, affectionate and often very attached to their owners. Dishwashers are a hazard for pets, because dishes carry food residue, sharp knives and detergent that can be harmful if licked. Closing the door right away, and keeping detergent pods out of reach, is a good habit, and call your vet if she licked any detergent.
Small dogs love to explore tight spaces, so it helps to give her a cozy bed or crate where she feels safe. A few minutes of play a day keeps clever pets from looking for trouble.
She has settled in as if it were the perfect hiding place, and she might be right. We can only hope that nobody presses the start button before she hops out. Maltese pups are known for their curiosity, and this one clearly checks every nook in the house.
