The Jack Russell Opened the Food Bags and Couldn't Believe It
Two paper bags lie torn open on the tile, and brown kibble has poured out across the floor in a wide fan. Beside them sits a tricolor Jack Russell Terrier with a black patch over one eye, round, startled eyes and folded ears. A woven rug and a laundry basket sit in the doorway behind. He is frozen in place, hoping nobody enters.
Jack Russell Terriers are bright, bold, high-energy dogs, originally bred for fox hunting. They are very smart and athletic, and they can jump surprisingly high for their size. That intelligence and strength mean a Jack Russell can open or tear into things that other dogs would leave alone, so food is often stored in sealed containers. Overeating can upset a dog's stomach, and a large amount of food in one go is worth a call to your vet.
A sturdy, lidded bin for food solves most of these problems, and a scheduled meal routine helps, too. Because Jack Russells need a lot of exercise, daily runs and training games keep them content.
His expression is very serious, as if he is explaining that the bags were already open. It was a huge meal for a small dog, and he now has a very busy evening ahead of him. Jack Russells are also famous for energy, so a long game of fetch after cleanup will be very welcome.
