Duchess Went Out for Some Fresh Air and Came Back With the Garden
Every step this cream Persian took across the white rug is recorded in brown. Paw prints lead right up to where she is sitting, and her long coat is clumped into damp, muddy points that stick out in every direction. Her round copper eyes are wide and a little worried, as if she has just realized the rug was not the same color as the garden. Behind her, a few leaves and bits of dirt have been tracked across the pale floor.
Persians have gorgeous coats, but that long, thick fur needs real attention. It tangles and mats easily, so most Persian owners brush them daily with a wide-toothed comb. Mud and dirt make it worse, because damp clumps can dry into tangles. If a long-haired cat gets truly filthy, a gentle bath with a cat-safe shampoo and thorough drying is usually the way to go, and a groomer can help when the knots get serious. Persians also have flat faces, which means their eyes can need a soft wipe from time to time. Most are calm, sweet-tempered homebodies, which makes a muddy adventure a bit of a surprise.
We will call her Duchess, because she looks like a duchess who has just discovered the countryside. A towel, a warm room, and a good brushing are coming her way soon. The rug, sadly, will take a little longer to recover.
