A Fluffy White Persian and the Case of the Fallen Houseplant
The terracotta pot is on its side, the houseplant has been dragged halfway across the floor, and a trail of dark soil leads straight to the fluffy white Persian sitting calmly in the middle of it. Her pink-rimmed eyes are big and a little anxious, and one front paw is still smudged with dirt. In the background, baskets and blankets are heaped on the floor, which makes the room look like the whole morning has been busy.
Cats are drawn to houseplants for several reasons. The leaves move in a breeze, the soil is fun to dig in, and many cats like to nibble greenery. That last part matters, because a number of popular houseplants, including lilies, are toxic to cats, and even a small amount of lily can be very dangerous. Before you bring a plant home, check whether it is safe for pets, and if your cat chews something you are unsure about, call your vet right away. Heavy pots, covered soil, and hanging planters can keep cats out of trouble, and a small pot of cat grass gives them something safe to chew.
This Persian looks like she is calculating how much of this will be blamed on the dog, even though there is no dog. She has a very long coat and a very short list of excuses, and the dustpan is already on its way.
