She Sat There So Politely With Frosting on Both Front Paws
The blue-eyed Birman is sitting very properly on the kitchen tile, back straight and fluffy tail curled to one side, which would be more convincing if both of her white front paws were not dotted with cake frosting. A few crumbs and a smear of icing sit on the floor beside her. Her dark seal-point face holds the faintest little smile, the kind of expression that says she knows exactly where the cake went and has no plans to discuss it.
Birmans are known for those sapphire eyes, their silky medium-length coats, and their white gloves on all four paws. They are usually calm, social, and gentle cats who like to be near their families, and many enjoy a good game of fetch or a puzzle toy to keep their clever minds busy. Sweet treats, though, are not for cats. Cats cannot taste sweetness the way we do, so she was probably after the buttery texture, but frosting and cake can upset a cat's stomach, and chocolate or sugar-free sweeteners can be dangerous. Keep cakes covered and out of reach, and call your vet if your cat eats something you are worried about.
Her white gloves will need a good wipe with a damp cloth, which she will tolerate with great dignity. Until then she sits there looking angelic, with just a hint of icing to give the game away.
