Rufus the Rescue Dog Decorates the Bed With Muddy Paw Prints
Muddy paw prints cover the bedspread in every direction, and in the middle of them sits a scruffy grey mixed-breed dog with a lopsided little smile. His whiskery face is a bit wild, one ear flops and the other does not, and his front paws are still brown from the yard. Behind him are a pile of clothes, a plaid blanket, and a lamp, and the whole room looks like it was visited by a very happy hurricane.
Mixed-breed rescue dogs often have a special kind of charm, and many seem to settle into a new home with a lot of gratitude. Getting up on the bed is a way for a dog to be close to his favorite people, and it can also be a spot that smells like them, which is comforting. If you would rather keep the bedding clean, a dedicated dog bed or a washable blanket in a favorite spot is often welcomed. A towel by the door and a quick paw wipe after outdoor play can save a lot of laundry. If a dog suddenly starts licking or chewing his paws a lot, it is worth mentioning to your vet, since it can be a sign of irritation.
We will call him Rufus. He seems very happy to be home, and honestly, the bed looks like it has been well loved. The sheets will go in the wash, and Rufus will take a very satisfied nap on the clean ones.
