A Black Cat With Saucer Eyes Stands on a Tumbled Pile of Books
A bookshelf has tipped sideways, paperbacks are scattered across the carpet in every direction, and in the middle of it all stands a glossy black cat with enormous yellow eyes. She is frozen with one paw on an open book and the other planted on the pile, looking directly at the viewer. The room beyond is quiet and ordinary, with a plant by the wall and a blanket on a chair, which makes the pile of books look even more dramatic.
Cats climb, and a bookshelf can look like a ladder to a high perch. But a tall shelf can be a hazard if it is not secured, since a climbing cat can topple it, which could hurt her or a family member. Anchoring bookcases to the wall is a simple fix, and giving a cat a sturdy cat tree near a window gives her a safe place to climb. Black cats are no different from any other cat in personality, and many are playful, affectionate, and curious. They are also often overlooked in shelters, which is a real shame, since a black cat can be a wonderful companion for anyone.
She appears to be waiting for someone to speak first. The books will take some time to put back in order, and the shelf will need to be fixed, but the cat will probably get a new tower of her own. Her eyes alone are worth the trouble.
