This Maltese Went Out White and Came Back Very Much Not White
A small white Maltese sits in the middle of a white rug, though both dog and rug have gone a bit brown. Mud streaks the chest and legs, and the paws are dark with it, while tiny muddy prints wander across the fluffy surface. The ears are pulled back and the dark eyes gaze off to the side with a sheepish look. A laundry basket and some shoes sit behind.
Maltese dogs are small, gentle companions with a long, silky white coat that grows and tangles easily. They love being close to their people and are often lively and playful in spite of their dainty look. That coat does pick up every bit of dirt outdoors, so many owners keep the hair trimmed shorter or schedule regular grooming, and a damp towel by the door makes after-walk cleanups easier. Brush gently once the mud is dry, since wet mud and tangles don't mix. Wiping the paws also helps check for any cuts or sore spots, and if you notice any, ask your vet.
The rug will need a good wash, and the dog will need a bath, but it will all be forgotten with a little warm towel and a cuddle. The little Maltese, for her part, seems to feel the adventure was worth every speck of mud, and she is not going to say otherwise.
