A Pile of Shoes Used to Be Pairs. Now the Siamese Is Sitting Very Still.
Three shoes, or what remains of them, form a ragged mound next to a pale Siamese with her ears pulled back and her eyes half closed. Strips of fabric and bits of rubber are scattered across the floorboards, and one sneaker has a tongue hanging in tatters. The cat does not look proud. She looks like someone who has just heard footsteps in the hallway.
Siamese cats are among the most talkative and people-focused breeds. They are intelligent, curious, and often need plenty of company and mental work to stay out of mischief. When a bored Siamese chews, it is usually about stress, teething in younger cats, or the strong scent of her favorite person lingering on a shoe. Cats can swallow bits of fabric or rubber, which can cause serious trouble inside the body, so it is smart to keep shoes in a closed closet and to clean up pieces right away. Offer safe chew toys, puzzle feeders, and a few interactive play sessions each day, and her energy will go somewhere better. If chewing seems constant or she is swallowing things, talk to your vet.
For the moment, she is sitting up straight and trying to look as if the shoes came this way. The flattened ears say otherwise, but you have to admire the effort. Perhaps the shoes were already tired and simply gave up on their own.
