A Devon Rex Sits Beside a Pile of Kibble That Wasn't Hers

Sunlight slants across the floor and lights up a spill of brown kibble that runs from a torn paper bag halfway to the front door. Beside it sits a grey Devon Rex with enormous ears, a wavy little coat, and pale green eyes turned slightly away from the mess. A pair of sneakers waits by the door and a scatter of colorful blocks sits in the corner, but all attention lands on the cat and her suspiciously clean paws.

Devon Rexes are slender, curly-coated cats with oversized ears and a reputation for being playful, clever, and endlessly curious. They often love to climb, investigate, and stay close to their people. That curiosity is also why food bags are such a target. Dog food smells rich and meaty, but it is formulated for dogs, not cats, and cats have different nutritional needs. An occasional nibble is unlikely to hurt, but it is not a good regular meal. Store pet food in a sealed, sturdy container off the floor, and sweep up spills so no one grazes on them. If your cat eats a lot of food that is not meant for her or seems unwell afterward, talk to your vet.

She has gone for the classic look of someone who definitely did not hear a bag rip. The ears are doing a lot of the talking, though, and they are saying something else entirely.
