The Mail Is Confetti Now, and a White Cat Is Sitting on the Pile
Torn envelopes, strips of cardboard, and flyers have settled around her like snow, and the white cat sits calmly on top of the heap with her ears tilted slightly back. Her pale green eyes look off to one side as if the whole thing is a mystery to her. In the background, a tidy living room with a couch and a basket sits unaffected, which makes the pile of paper on the carpet look even more dramatic.
Cats love paper. It crinkles, it tears, and it makes a pleasing noise when pounced on. Letters and flyers landing on the floor also look a lot like prey, and a quick pounce often turns into a full shred. White-coated cats like this one have the same sharp instincts as any cat, although some may have blue eyes and be hard of hearing, which is worth discussing with your vet. A mail slot at floor level is an invitation, so consider placing a basket under it or moving mail delivery to a box outside. Check that she is not swallowing the paper, and give her safe things to shred, like a plain cardboard box or a sheet of brown craft paper. Keep any mail with sharp staples or sticky seals out of reach.
She has decided the mail is better this way. Perhaps she has a point, since no bill ever looked so fluffy.
