The Shoes Are in Pieces, and the British Shorthair Is Frozen Wide-Eyed
A tower of ruined shoes sits on the beige carpet, with leather peeled back, soles gnawed, and black fabric hanging in strips. Right next to it, a blue-grey British Shorthair sits with wide round yellow eyes, frozen in the middle of a very bad moment. His round cheeks and plush coat make him look especially surprised, and bits of dark rubber and fabric lie scattered across the floor beside him.
British Shorthairs are known for their dense, plush coats, round faces, and calm, easygoing personalities. They are often described as independent but affectionate, and they usually prefer cuddling near you rather than on you. Even calm cats can chew when they are bored, stressed, or drawn to the smell of their person on a shoe. Rubber, leather, and fabric can be dangerous if swallowed, so clean up all the scraps right away. Keep shoes in a closet or on a rack out of reach, and offer him interactive play and chew-safe toys so he can burn off energy. A cat who chews a lot may be telling you he is bored or anxious. If he swallows pieces of a shoe or seems unwell, call your vet.
His wide eyes make the whole thing hard to stay cross about. The shoes will need replacing, but the cat will get plenty of forgiveness.
